This was the first song I taught myself to play when I bought my first (and only!) bass back in 2004. I had big aspirations, I thought I’d learn all of Trust by Elvis Costello, but Bruce Thomas’ basslines are NO JOKE. I mean, this one’s not easy; it took me a few weeks to get sharp at, it requires some crazy big stretches, but it makes sense, it is catchy enough to hum, and it doesn’t have too many filligrees (unlike, say, “Pretty Words” from Trust, which is one enormous filligree). This song makes me smile every time I hear it, and sometimes I even remember to listen to something other than the bass!
